Face the Wind
30” x 24” unframed, 32” x 26” framed. Oil on canvas.
“Face the Wind” is about two dogs that live on a ranch in Arizona. Elements of the ranch include wild elk, horseshoes and cattle brands. The colors of the painting are influenced by both desert and forest landscapes. Compositionally, the dogs create a diagonal reinforced by the patterns of the wallpaper and rug. The elk are shown in different positions within the oval windows to emphasize their fleeting presence on the ranch.
Detail: Elks shown in varying placement within the ovals and a detail of the rug pattern of a horseshoe surrounding the cattle brand.
