In “I Forgive You”, purple hyacinth, symbolic of asking for forgiveness, are painted faintly in the background The words “I forgive you” cover the floor. Seeing the dog tear into the pillow we might think we are forgiving the dog. Upon closer look, the pillow has a pattern of my interpretation of bull’s horns. The story of the painting is twofold. The young pit-bull-mix dog is also forgiving us: symbolically for the Pit Bull’s use in bull baiting, and perhaps, for our generalizations about the breed. Forgiveness is powerful.
