It appears the black and white cat is sitting on a newspaper but in fact the cat is sitting on a rug as indicated by the fringe on right side of the canvas. A pattern of creamers on the wall compliment the coffee and sugar on the table.
Detail: The “text” of the newspaper is abstracted but in keeping general rules of columns and paragraphs, the variation of paint stoke still reads as “text”.
